As Mint Builders ‘Extend Instead’ Spring campaign gathers momentum, a round of stats emerging from a survey from estate agent association, NAEA Propertymark, suggests home owners across the UK have now forked out £41bn sprucing up their properties over the last five years – an average of £1,875 each!
Very telling indeed is the fact that nearly three in four (73%) homeowners have updated their home since 2013, with 10% admitting they have done so because of the high cost of moving.
With home sales slowing since the start of the year, we here at Mint Builders have been hearing a more and more that an increasing number of homeowners are investigating extending their property as a realistic option to packing up and moving house.
Revealed in a recent email newsletter from the Property portal Zoopla, further results of the NAEA survey of homeowners highlighted above showed that around 28% wanting to add a new kitchen, 6% intended to install home gyms and cinemas and an unlikely 4% hopes to add a swimming pool! So now you know!
The NAEA research revealed the top 10 projects in the UK:
|Most popular home improvements for homeowners||Percentage of homeowners||Average spent per improvement|
|New doors (internal and external)||28%||£906|
|Building a conservatory||11%||£4,310|
