Photos and artwork for your new home extension may say a lot about your peace of mind…

A new space at home by way of a home extension or renovation is always an exciting opportunity to create a new atmosphere offering comfort, an attractive, restful atmosphere and also no little interest and style.

There are many elements that play a key part in you achieving just the right look, feel, style and atmosphere in your new home extension whether it be paint finish ..flooring… window dressings … soft furnishings …and also, perhaps wall dressing… such as pictures, photo choices and Art.  All can play their part!

criminal

That famous artist Banksy –  as reported by Real Homes writer Millie Hurst – apparently said that blank walls are criminal – and who would argue with that! His message is that if you’ve had some prints waiting to be hung for months, get them up! But, poses writer Mille Hurst…  what does your chosen artwork say about your personality or mindset?  Some thoughts and ideas then perhaps to affect the decor choices you might consider for your new extension or renovated room on completion.

instant interest

It’s certainly right – apparently – that considered, well-selected prints and photographs can indeed add instant interest to your room or extension, whether it be a single framed postcard type item – wall centred – or a well-selected, full gallery ‘wall’ of eye-catching varied, complementary visual stylish items.

That’s not all, apparently these picture and artwork choices can indeed say a lot about your personality and demeanour according to expert information from a decor specialist known as an interiors therapist…. well now you know!

guiding chat

Real Homes report and highlight some of these key views from just such an interiors therapist, Suzanne Roynon. She says that the most treasured pieces of art she finds in homes are the ones displayed because, regardless of price, origin or content, they ‘bring delight to their owners.’ Suzanne is author of Welcome Home -stuff makes or breaks your Relationship… to be found at Amazon. .She says that we are attracted to pieces of art that represent our life at a sub-conscious level – well….so now you know!

gravitate

She comments, reports Real Homes, “This is particularly prevalent for people who are stressed or anxious, and those who are single or recently separated, They gravitate to images which reinforce their emotional state or single status.” Suzanne also adds, “You like your home to feel calm. Scenes of nature can help to create a soothing feel in any room – making them a good option if you’re thinking of buying artwork for someone for their new home extension perhaps this Christmas.”

inspiring

Also, anyone who is very stressed and busy at work should go for art in that new home extension …or even home office as we are back to homeworking again it seems – that depicts say an inspiring woodland scene or enticing winding path – the aim being to help them ‘unwind’ at the end of that hectic, demanding day in the office.

family photos

What about family photos for a bit of decor in that new room, she suggests. Says Suzanne, ‘to keep a person’s photo on the wall can perhaps be all about having loved… and been loved’. She also adds that a few, well-chosen images on a wall can certainly demonstrate a truly sentimental attachment to family, reference those still present or even those who are no longer around.’

bright, breezy colours

Suzanne also believes a dark, moody abstract work presents a heavy chaotic energy, which in its turn might be all about bold, challenging decision-making . Bright, breezy vivid colours, on the other hand, can lift spirits. But both can represent a lack of control, distraction, scattered thoughts, erratic behaviour and even ambiguity….well that’s what the expert says …. so be aware of this as you choose an abstract in that new room perhaps?

focus

Actual Words presented on a wall in frame (or not) could be viewed as a way to express mood and attitude apparently. Says Suzanne, ‘If you are an energetic driven person, certainly favoured and considered written affirmations can for sure help focus one on your goals and life outlook perhaps….or so they say!

be aware

Adds Suzanne – it may in fact be best to avoid such phrases on your wall that might include any negative words like ‘don’t’ or ‘never’  Thus perhaps ‘Never give up’ is out ..and ideally a chosen positive, inspiring phrase needs to be best choice. “We need to be aware of the impact of accidental negative messaging in terms of our  health and wellbeing,’ says Suzanne.

inspiring

If she sees any unhelpful words in a home, she always recommends steps are taken to replace these with something more inspiring. After all comfort and rest at home – particularly perhaps in that new extension built specifically to improve your living environment  –  is of absolute and vital importance …..well of course it is!
