Energy saving – a ‘must’ for that future home extension or renovation…

More and more – as highlighted here recently – those going ahead with a new home extension or renovation should ensure plans to deal with all aspects of energy saving and sustainability are included – essential in these green conscious times.

Energy saving can be achieved with regards to design, product- choice and numerous other various aspects of the planning and development of each and every home extension or renovation project. We, at Mint, are, of course, constantly responding to all kinds of client needs in energy saving and efficiency. We research and review all kinds of information,  in the energy saving field in order to ensure we are always able to deliver effective, wide-ranging, energy savings ‘essentials’ within all home extension and renovation development projects.

energy saving

When it comes to important general householder  ‘knowledge’ of energy saving, spotted online recently was an interesting schedule of energy saving tips to consider … some obvious and known … … and some less so. They came from Smart Energygb..

initiatives

Take a look at this wide ranging information perhaps for future knowledge and interest perhaps. For sure, these energy saving initiatives are worth being aware of so that you could consider getting them included in the planning of any future home extension or renovation you might have in mind for 2022.

starting ‘point’

Of course, becoming more aware of how much energy you’re using day on day is very much THE basic starting point. You need to firmly grasp control of this ‘basic’ and thus make the telling changes and installations needed to improve energy efficiency both in your current home and, also, of course,  reference any newly extended or renovated home project planned or underway.

simple changes

Well-considered quite small changes can reduce your energy consumption in all areas and thus can also help you reduce your all important, much talked-of ‘carbon footprint’. There are many simple changes you can make in your home to reduce your electricity and gas usage.

energy saving challenge

From switching off lights, to washing your clothes at a lower temperature… there is much that is simple to do ….to make a difference. And if you have a new extension planned, it’s a good opportunity to turn over a new leaf perhaps and take on energy saving as a worthwhile challenge to develop for an improved greener and hopefully money-saving future …

home temperature

Smart Energygb say….’consider that modest thermostat’ …it is your friend. Getting to know your home’s temperature and – of course the warmth output in any new extension – can be an easy way to take control of your energy usage once and for all to help achieve a more aware, money-saving energy-saving future.

worth it…..

So, when you have that renovation or new extension in mind ….make a move to ensure your project is as energy efficient as you can make it..…and then, perhaps, consider rolling out money saving effects throughout the rest of your home too  ..why not indeed… it’s got to be worth it!

spark’ off a new start

Adjust your thermostat if it is comfortable to do so. Turning the heating thermostat down by one degree can save you around £60 a year according to The Energy Saving Trust. (A basic effective Smart Thermostat is a great energy saving  weapon..and perhaps it will spark a new start for you  when your new extension project is being planned and progressed.

keep an eye

Smart thermostats, such as Hive and Nest, connect to your wifi so you can control your heating and hot water through your smart phone, tablet or desktop.  Remember though, having one means you are only tracking your heating …..and you really need to keep a general eye on ALL your electricity and gas usage specifically.

top tip

A top tip to achieve that is all about getting that vital smart metre operating in your current home and that new extension too . As you may well know, when you have a smart metre installed, you can choose to accept an in-home display (IHD). This monitors and displays your ongoing energy use in near real-time.

data

This helps you to see exactly how much electricity and/or gas you’re using in pounds and pence. This energy usage data in your home and in your new extension too of course can help you make the right adjustments to heat use in all rooms thus helping you run your new extension or newly renovated home as energy effectively as possible.
